Rome’s MAXXI museum opens for preview

This weekend sees the opportunity of a first glimpse at the ambitious interior of one of Rome’s newest contemporary museums.
Maxxi, located on the outskirts of the city centre at Flaminio, opens to the public on Saturday for a two-day ‘architectural preview’ of the thoroughly modern and energetic construction characterised by its curved and sensual lines. The galleries however will remain empty of art until the spring, when the museum is scheduled to hold its first exhibition.
Overlooking a gravel piazza and hidden behind an old factory transformed into a temporary exhibition space, its smooth concrete forms are likely to delight lovers of modern architecture whose appitites are yet to be satisfied in Rome.
Zaha Hadid became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004. She is known for the powerful, curving lines of her elongated structures. She was born in Iraq in 1950, a time of glamour and progressive thinking in the Middle East, and was raised in one of Baghdad’s first houses inspired by Bauhaus, a highly influential movement aimed at unifying art, craft and technology.
MAXXI previews with Zaha Hadid on Saturday and Sunday 14 and 15 November from 10.00 - 13.00.
International dance star Sasha Waltz performs Saturday 14 Nov 21.00, Sunday 15 Nov 16.00 & 21.00. Tickets €22.00.

I am interested in know what person or people at the Maxxi will be responsible for upcoming show selections (artists). I am interested as I would like to introduce my father’s work to a person there who would be willing to view it and review his resume. My father is now 88 and unfortunately has Parkinson’s, tho he still paints when he can. He does abstract/contemporary watercolors….most quite big (45″ x 45″, 50″ x 60″, 50″ x 72″, 50″ x 102″)…His work is one of a kind….( i have nevr seen or heard of anyone doing this type of work)…and very unique…I think it would do very well at the maxxi…..
Please let me know what info you may give me. I’d be most appreciative.
Thank you kindly,

The museum is truly one of the best I’ve yet seen…..aside from the Guggenheim in NYC….which I like, being a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright.
