Falling for this Season’s Fashion
by Daria Siciliani De Cumis (columnist) | Friday, November 13th, 2009
If there is one great thing about the arrival of Fall, it is without a doubt the opportunity to rethink one’s look. Shops everywhere are overflowing with new arrivals… fantastic! Hopefully, you haven’t disintegrated your credit card over summer (like me), so I’ll limit my advice to wardrobe staples, so make room in your closet for new purchases!
Decisions, decisions…
Before leaving home, we must carefully decide which clothes we really like and will actually wear, and which are probably best to ‘pass on’ to a better life. You should know that I have taken it upon myself to peruse many stores and selected garments that de?nitely deserve a look for this Fall-Winter season. After all, that new space inside our closet needs filling, right?
Good girls like it small and buttoned
The first article of clothing for the winter season is a top layer: a nice coat, overcoat, etc. Miu Miu on Via del Babuino has a great coat, in both black or gray, with a small collar, buttons and a cut underneath the breast, made for anyone who likes the ‘good girl’ look. For lighter winter days, there is also a choice of double-breasted jackets in a great selection of colors, including purple.
Nuyorica, near Campo dé Fiori, also has ample coats by Balenciaga and Chloè, but there of course the prices start to rise… but when keeping in mind that a coat is the first thing people see when we go out, let’s call it an investment!
Zip it
If instead you prefer more technical materials, and need a jacket for the ski-slopes, there is a lovely one from Prada on Via Condotti: black, with a big collar and zip.
Anyone needing a multifunctional black pant should take my advice and pop by Gente on Via del Babuino, or Via Cola di Rienzo, where they have a great choice of interesting cuts. If you are undecided, go with boot cut pants… If you need a little dress for the upcoming season, then without a doubt run over to Marni. Their new collection is even more thrilling than usual, and I particularly love the black tube top with little wings, to match with boots or a lovely pump, which are always a go, even with sack dresses.
Reboot
Speaking of boots, let’s head over to Sergio Rossi, who boasts a low heeled, knee-high boot made of oh-so-soft leather which you can find at his store on Piazza di Spagna, or at Eleonora in nearby Via del Babuino. If instead you are looking for a nice ankle-high booty go to Tad on Via del Babuino and look for Marc Jacobs’ awesome purple version. For other types of shoes, Church on Via Condotti has a great selection of classic styles.
Now onto sweaters and without hesitation it’s back to Gente to check out their Inverni collection. Very chic and great quality. I’ll limit myself to suggesting recently-opened Jimmy Choo on Via dei Condotti. Once you come out you won’t feel the same way again…
A purse for all purses
And now, the best part: purses! Of course, the choices are, as always, innumerable… have a clear idea of what you want, considering the large selection, but if it’s too hard, I understand.
So here’s my advice, now it’s up to you to choose your own look! Bye!
