A furore over racist chants pitched at 19 year-old Inter Milan striker, Mario Balotelli, last season reignited on the eve of the nerazzuri’s 5 December top-of-the-table clash with second-placed rivals Juventus.
Taunts of “there’s no such thing as a black Italian” aimed at ‘Super Mario’ – born in Sicily to Ghanaian parents and raised in Brescia by an Italian family – have cost Juve already. A match was played behind closed doors last season and a French anti-racism group says it intends to file a lawsuit against supporters whose anti-Balotelli slurs marred a Champions League match at Bordeaux.
